Add a table

Choose the table button in the toolbar (or press Shift+T), then point at a size on the grid or type the number of rows and columns. The table appears in the middle of the view with its first cell selected and its first row as a header. A table has up to 100 rows, 30 columns and 1,000 cells; a cell holds up to 1,000 characters. In the Arabic interface a new table runs right to left: its first column is on the right.

Paste a table

Copy cells from Excel, Google Sheets or LibreOffice, or a Markdown table (as chat assistants write them), and paste on the page: it becomes a table. Pasted into selected cells, they fill the table from the first selected cell and add rows and columns as needed. Plain text with line breaks stays text.

Select and type

  • Click a table to select it, click again on a cell to select the cell, and double-click (or press Enter or F2) to type. Text wraps in its cell and the row grows to fit.
  • Tab saves the text and moves to the next cell; after the last cell it adds a row. Shift+Tab goes back. Escape cancels the typing, and Escape again returns from the cells to the whole table.
  • With cells selected, the arrow keys move to the next cell and Shift with an arrow selects a range. Drag across cells, or Shift+click, to select a range too.
  • The status line says which row and column you are in and, with a header row, the column's heading.

Rows and columns

  • The + beside the table's edge adds a column, the + below it a row.
  • The Table section of Style inserts rows above or below and columns before or after the selection, deletes them, merges and unmerges cells, and moves the selected rows or columns (a move that would split a merged cell is refused with the reason).
  • Delete with whole rows or columns selected removes them; with other cells selected it clears their text.
  • Merging keeps every cell's text, one line each.
  • Drag a column's edge to make it wider or narrower, or a row's bottom edge to set its smallest height (its text can still make it taller). Dragging the table's corner handle scales it.

Style, copy and export

  • With the table selected, Style's colour sets its lines and text, the fill the table's background and the width the lines; text size, font, alignment and opacity apply to the whole table.
  • With cells selected, fill and alignment apply to those cells, and the Table section places their text at the top, middle or bottom. Header row and Columns run right to left are switches there; reversing the direction also swaps left and right alignment.
  • Copied cells paste into spreadsheets. Export as CSV in the Table section downloads the table's text.
  • Tables appear in PNG, SVG and PDF exports like everything else. Arrows can attach to a table; tables do not rotate.
