First Launch

  1. Open Beep Quiz and choose English or العربية. This sets the app's language; the host chooses each game's language separately.
  2. A short illustrated introduction shows the three parts of the game: joining, hosting, and playing on a big screen. You can step back and forth or skip to the last step.
  3. Choose Join a game to play straight away without an account, or register or sign in to host.

The home screen offers Join a game and Host a game. Once you are signed in it also offers Join as a co-host, History, Solo Practice and My profile. How to play replays the introduction, and Help and support is available at any time.

Joining a Game

  1. Open Beep Quiz and choose Join a game.
  2. Enter the four-character code shown on the TV (or shared by the host) and your name, then tap Find game.
  3. Choose the team or place you want to join, or tap Assign me a place. Full places are marked as full.
  4. Tap Join the game. Your phone becomes your controller; the TV shows the game for everyone.

Closed the app mid-game? Join again with the same code — you come back as yourself and keep your original place. If the game is full, returning players can still rejoin from their original device.

Scanning the QR code on the TV opens a page that shows the game code and explains how to join in the app.

While You Play

What your phone shows depends on the rules the host chose. See Game modes and rules for the options.

Buzz

When buzzers open, tap BUZZ. If you win the buzz, answer out loud and the host marks your answer. In some games the host picks who answers instead.

Tap to answer

In tap-to-answer games the four options appear as buttons on your phone. The first correct tap wins, and you get one guess per question.

Your pick

When it is your team's turn to choose, pick a cell on your phone. In the Race, choose a category and then a level when they are offered.

Cards

When the cards layer is on, your hand is on your phone. Review a card before playing it; some cards ask you to choose a target. Cards can only be played during the card periods the rules allow.

Effects and discoveries

Your phone tells you about streaks, surprises, traps, hazards you have spotted and turns you still have to miss — some of this is shown only to your team.

Report a problem

If a player name or a question is offensive or wrong, use Report a problem, choose what you are reporting and say why.

If the connection drops, the app reconnects to your game automatically, and offers Reconnect to game if it cannot. If the host removes you, your phone says so.

Hosting a Game

Hosting needs a Quiz account. Everything below happens in the Beep Quiz app.

  1. Sign in. Choose Host a game, then sign in or create an account.
  2. Choose a game. A saved game combines rules and questions and can be reused. If you have none yet, choose Create my first game to start from a ready-made setup.
  3. Rules and questions. Pick the game rules — a built-in preset or your own copy — and a question collection made from the banks available to your account. Choose Customize game rules to copy a preset and change it. Changes made here are saved for future games; games already running are not changed.
  4. Teams. Name each team or place and choose its colour. In the Race, also choose how many players take part.
  5. Game details. Give this occasion a name (for example Friday quiz), choose the language of the questions and the TV screen (if the saved game allows it), and set the answer time for this game.
  6. Check your game. The app shows the server's checks — for example whether there are enough questions in the chosen language and levels — with anything that blocks the launch and how to fix it.
  7. Create game. The game room opens with its join code. You choose when the questions begin.
  8. Invite players. Copy or share the player code, and put the game on the TV (see below).

The player code only lets people join as players. The co-host code is different: it grants host controls, so share it only with someone you trust.

Running the Game

Once the room is open, the host's phone becomes a pocket remote. The answer to the current question is shown on the host's phone only.

ControlWhat it does
Start / reveal boardBegins play when everyone is ready.
Open buzzersLets players buzz. The phone lists who buzzed, in order.
Who answers? / Let them answerHands the question to a player when the rules let the host choose.
Correct / WrongMarks a spoken answer. Tap-to-answer games score themselves.

Start Next RoundIn the Race, opens the next player's turn.
Edit question budgetIn the Race with question limits, when the allowance runs out the host can raise each level's allowance or continue without limits. Questions already used are not repeated.
Span RushStarts the bonus round, chooses the contestant, records answers, skips a cell, pauses, resumes or abandons the round.
ParticipantsShows who is connected, and lets the host remove or block a player.
Start next gameMoves on to the next game of a match.

If the host's connection drops, the app reconnects automatically or offers Reconnect to game. A game that is still running can also be reopened from History.

Co-Hosting

  1. The host taps Invite co-host and shares the co-host code privately.
  2. The co-host signs in to Beep Quiz, chooses Join as a co-host and enters the code.
  3. The co-host's phone pairs with the game and shows the same host controls.

Putting the Game on the TV

Beep Quiz TV

On an Android TV, open Beep Quiz TV — it shows Waiting for host phone. On an Android host phone on the same Wi-Fi, tap Play on TV. The TV loads the game and the phone confirms it.

Google Cast

If no Beep Quiz TV app answers, an Android host phone offers the Cast button to show the game on a Chromecast, Google TV or a TV with Chromecast built in. Nothing needs to be installed on the TV.

Any browser

On the TV's web browser, or a computer connected to the TV, open the Quiz TV page address shown in the app and enter the game code. iPhone hosts use this method.

  • In a browser, the TV may ask you to Tap to enable sound before it can play sound.
  • The board's size on the TV (Standard, Large or Extra large) and its artwork style are part of the game rules.
  • If the TV cannot load the game, the phone says why and offers to try again or to search for Beep Quiz TV again.

Solo Practice

Signed-in users can practise questions on their own, without a TV or other players.

  1. Choose Solo Practice on the home screen.
  2. Choose the language, the banks to practise and how many questions, then tap Start practice.
  3. Type your answer and tap Check answer, or tap Reveal answer. If your answer was right but not recognised, tap My answer was also correct.
  4. At the end, view your results. You can end a practice early — your progress is saved — and resume it later.

Game History

History lists the games you created and the games you took part in, with when they started and ended, the players and their teams, and each game's status — for example waiting to start, in progress, paused, completed or ended early. For a game that is still running, Open host controls takes you back to the host remote.

Managing Your Account

Open My profile in the app.

OptionWhat it does
ProfileYour display name.
Game ownershipOffer ownership of a shared game to another member. You remain the owner until they accept from their own account; offers expire after seven days.
Blocked playersSee the players you have blocked and unblock them.
Privacy and account dataOpens the privacy notice.
Sign outSigns out on this phone.
Delete accountDeletes your Quiz account. You may be asked to sign in again to confirm.

Before you delete your account: if you own games shared with other members, transfer their ownership first — shared games block deletion until ownership is resolved. Deletion removes your personal question banks, profiles and settings; shared game records may remain. Deletion cannot be undone. If you cannot use the app, contact support.

Reporting, Removing and Blocking

  • Report a problem is available to players and hosts during a game. Choose the player name or the question, say why, and send. Moderators review reports.
  • Remove takes a player out of the current game; they cannot rejoin that game from the same device or account.
  • Block removes a player and stops them joining any game you host. If they were signed in, the block applies to their account and the device they used. If they were not signed in, it applies only to that device, so clearing the browser or reinstalling the app lets them back in.
  • Unblock players from Blocked players in your profile.
  • Offensive names are refused when someone joins a game.
