Overview

Quiz is The Tech Idea's multiplayer quiz game. A host sets up and runs a game from their phone, players join from their own phones with a four-character game code, and a shared TV shows the board, the questions and the scores to the whole room. A correct answer does more than add points: depending on the game mode it claims a cell, moves a token or drives a car along a route, so every question changes the board.

The phone app is called Beep Quiz and the Android TV app is called Beep Quiz TV. This documentation refers to the product as Quiz.

Games run on the Quiz server. Every phone and the TV show the same live game in real time, and a player who closes the app mid-game can join again with the same code and come back as themselves.

Product status. Quiz is in active development. At the time of writing, the phone and TV apps have not yet been published on the App Store or Google Play. This page describes the product as it is built today.

Who It Is For

Family night

Children against parents, grandparents on the buzzer. The host chooses the question banks, the language and the rules, so the game suits the people in the room.

Friends and trivia groups

Teams, steals, streaks, blocked paths and comebacks bring a quiz-night atmosphere home.

Bilingual households

Questions can carry English and Arabic text side by side, and the whole game plays right-to-left as naturally as left-to-right.

Training sessions

A built-in Training / HSE preset plays turn by turn with no buzz race and no stealing, and the question library includes professional topics such as IT and oil and gas.

Key Features

Phones are the buzzers

Players buzz in, tap their answer, pick cells and play cards in the Beep Quiz app. Private information — the host's answer key and each player's card hand — stays on the phones it belongs to.

The TV is the board

The shared screen shows the join code in the lobby, normally with a QR code beside it, then the board, the questions (including pictures, audio and video), scores, effects and the winner. It is designed to be read from across the room.

No account needed to join

Players enter the game code and a name. Only hosting and personal features such as history and practice need an account.

Four ways to win

Territory, Traverse, King of the Hill and Race, played on hexagon, square, road or winding-route boards. See Game modes.

Optional game layers

Cards, surprise cells, sandstorm hazards, oasis springs, hot streaks, comeback bonuses, a final sprint, end-of-game honours, and ladders, snakes, quicksand and mystery cells for the Race.

Ready-made presets

Thirteen built-in rule presets, from Quick Play and Family Night to Tournament and The Race. Copy a preset in the app to make it your own.

Span Rush bonus round

An optional timed round with its own board and a single countdown for the whole round.

A built-in question library

Question packs ship with Quiz and are available to every account, covering topics from flags, capitals and animals to science, sport, history and Islamic studies — many with pictures.

A pocket remote for the host

Open the buzzers, mark answers, skip or void a ruling, fix a score, play sound cues on the TV, and manage players — all from the host's phone. A co-host can help with a private code.

Checked before play

Before a game opens, the server checks that the chosen questions can supply the board and tells the host what is missing. Administrators also have a review queue for new questions and a question-health report built from real games.

Solo practice and history

Signed-in users can practise questions on their own and resume later, and can look back at the games they created and the games they played in.

Safety tools

Report a player name or a question from inside a game. Hosts can remove or block players, and offensive names are refused when someone joins.

How It Works

Set up the game

The host opens Beep Quiz, chooses Host a game, signs in or registers, then picks a saved game, the rules, the questions and the teams.

Everyone joins

Players open Beep Quiz, choose Join a game, enter the host's code and their name, and choose a team or let the game place them. No account is required.

Put the board on the TV

The host sends the game to Beep Quiz TV or a Google Cast device, or opens the Quiz TV page in any TV or computer browser and enters the code.

Languages

  • The app, the website and the TV display are available in English and Arabic, with full right-to-left layout in Arabic.
  • The first time you open the app it asks for your language. You can switch at any time with the language button.
  • Your app language and the game language are separate. The host chooses the language of the questions and the TV screen for each game; a saved game can lock this choice or allow it to change at launch.
  • Each question carries its text in each language separately. Most built-in packs are English and Arabic; a few are Arabic only.

Registering and signing in

  • In the app, Log In and Create Account open a secure sign-in screen provided by The Tech Idea's shared Beep sign-in service, then bring you back to the app. You stay signed in on that phone.
  • Continue with Apple and Continue with Google appear when the service has those providers enabled.
  • Accounts are not linked automatically. Sign in with the same method you used before.
  • Passwords, Apple and Google sign-in, and account security are managed by the sign-in service. Quiz itself keeps your game history, preferences and in-game permissions.
  • Sign-in on the Quiz website is reserved for Quiz administrators. Hosts and players are directed to the app.

Your profile

The profile page in the app holds your display name, game ownership transfers, your list of blocked players, the privacy notice, help, sign-out and account deletion. See Managing your account for details.

Questions and Content

Banks and collections

Questions live in banks. When setting up a game, a host chooses banks to form a question collection; the app shows how many questions each choice offers in the selected language, including how many are ready for tap-to-answer.

Four difficulty levels

Every question has a level — Easy, Medium, Hard or Expert. Category boards and the Race use these levels directly.

Pictures, audio and video

A question can show a picture or play audio or video, on the TV and on the phones.

Tap-ready questions

Questions with four answer options can be played tap-to-answer, where the options become buttons on every phone and the game scores itself.

The built-in library

Quiz ships with ready-to-play question packs that every account can use. Topics include world flags, capitals and landmarks, animals, marine life, plants and flowers, fruit and vegetables, world cuisine, space, general science, maths and physics diagrams, visual logic puzzles, video games, football and the Olympics, world history, Islamic history, the Quran, Hadith and the Prophet's biography, Arabic proverbs and poets, Kuwait and Gulf heritage, IT, and oil and gas. Several packs are picture questions, and some are aimed at younger children.

How content is managed

Quiz administrators manage the library on the website:

  • Import questions from an .xlsx or .csv spreadsheet using a downloadable template. The file is checked and previewed before anything is written, and problem rows can be fixed on screen.
  • Bank packs move a whole bank as one file, for example onto a machine with no network connection.
  • Review: imported questions arrive as drafts for review unless the administrator chooses to publish a file that was already reviewed elsewhere. Reviewers work through a review queue, and authors see anything sent back to them.
  • AI-assisted drafting is optional and available only when an administrator has configured a question-generation service. Every draft is held for human review before it can be published.
  • Question health lists published questions that misbehaved in real games, so they can be corrected or retired.
  • Themes and sound packs: themes set the colours of the TV and phone screens, and a theme that would be unreadable or hard to follow for colour-blind players cannot be saved. Sound packs play only on the big screen.

Privacy and Safety

  • The TV is a public screen. Anyone who can see it sees participant names, scores and other public game information. Host controls, the answer key and private card hands are kept off it.
  • Report a problem. During a game, tap Report a problem, choose the player name or question, and say why. Reports go to the service's moderators for review.
  • Remove and block. Hosts can remove a player from a game, or block a player so they cannot join any game that host runs. Blocked players can be unblocked from the profile page.
  • Player names. Offensive names are refused when someone joins. If one gets through, report it and the host can remove or block that player.
  • Privacy notice. The full privacy notice is available from the app and the website. It states that the service does not sell personal information or use it for advertising, and that the app keeps sign-in information in the device's secure storage.

Getting Help

  • In the app: Help and support is available from the home screen, even before you sign in, and opens the support page with the service's contact address. How to play replays the introduction at any time.
  • On the Quiz website: the Help and support page explains reporting, blocking and player names; the Privacy and account data page explains what is stored and how to request access, correction or removal; the Delete account page explains how to delete your account.
  • The Tech Idea: you can also contact The Tech Idea through this website.

Tip: never send passwords, sign-in codes or private keys with a support request.
